A seat assembly (120) includes a base structure (130) having at least one of a seat pan shell (132) and a backrest shell (134), and one or more attachment structures (150) configured to removably couple at least one of the seat pan shell (132) and the backrest shell (134) to a seat surface arrangement (140) or a utility surface arrangement (170). The base structure (130) is convertible between a passenger seat and a utility element based on the coupling of the seat surface arrangement (140) or the utility surface arrangement (170), respectively, to the base structure (130).
