DRIVE
August 7, 2024
A tire (10) is disclosed comprising: a tread (13), the tread (13) having arranged therein a sacrificial magnet portion (12) exposed to tread wear, the sacrificial magnet portion (12) being provided for generating a first magnetic field signal that is changing as a function of tread wear or that is indicative of tread thickness; a magnetizable material having a magnetization preferably depending non-linearly on magnetic field strength, the magnetizable material being provided for generating an interfering magnetic field signal for superimposing the first magnetic field signal; a magnetic field sensor (11) for sensing or measuring the first magnetic field signal and the superimposed interfering magnetic field signal; and a permanent magnet portion (17) arranged proximate the magnetizable material so as to decouple the interfering magnetic field signal sensed or measured by the magnetic field sensor (11) from the first magnetic field signal sensed or measured by the magnetic field sensor (11). Also, a method of monitoring tire tread wear is disclosed.
