AIRCRAFT PROPULSION SYSTEM WITH VARIABLE AREA INLET
DRIVE
October 9, 2024
An assembly (58) for an aircraft propulsion system (20) includes a variable area inlet (66) with a fixed structure (70) and a moveable structure (72). The variable area inlet (66) is configured to open and close an airflow inlet passage (76) into the aircraft propulsion system (20). The moveable structure (72) is configured to move axially along a centerline (30, 78) between an aft position and a forward position. The moveable structure (72) includes an inlet lip structure (112) and a deflector (114). When the moveable structure (72) is in the aft position, the airflow inlet passage (76) is closed, and the deflector (114) is at least partially recessed into the fixed structure (70). When the moveable structure (72) is in the forward position, the airflow inlet passage (76) is opened axially between an aft end (126) of the inlet lip structure (112) and a forward end (116) of the fixed structure (70), and a forward end (134) of the deflector (114) is disposed axially at the forward end (116) of the fixed structure (70).
