An aircraft drive shaft system (100) includes a generator shaft (102) extending along a longitudinal axis (A) with a longitudinal bore (104) defined through the generator shaft (102). A thru shaft (106) extends through the longitudinal bore (104) of the generator shaft (102). The thru shaft (106) includes a front coupler mount (108) at a first end (110) operative to receive torque input, and a rear coupler mount (112) at a second end (114) opposite the first end (110). The generator shaft (102) includes a rear coupler mount (116) at a second end (118) of the generator shaft (102) that is coupled to the rear coupler mount (112) of the thru shaft (106) operative to transmit torque from the front coupler mount (108) of the thru shaft (106), through the thru shaft (106), and into the generator shaft (102).
