A method of accelerating a gas turbine engine (100) includes adding torque to a core (144) of the gas turbine engine (100) to accelerate rotation of the core (104) by controlling fuel flow to a plurality of fuel injectors (120) of the gas turbine engine (100). The method also includes adding torque to the core (144) by powering an electric machine (146) that is operatively connected to the core (144). In embodiments, controlling fuel flow to the plurality of fuel injectors (120) is based on feedback from the electric machine (146).
