There is provided a positive electrode active material capable of giving excellent output characteristics to a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery and suppressing an increase in resistance after cyclic charge and discharge. The positive electrode active material disclosed herein includes a core portion which contains a lithium transition metal composite oxide, and a coat portion with which at least part of a surface of the core portion is coated. The coat portion contains brookite-type TiOand rutile-type TiO.
