The cylinder block is formed of an aluminum alloy containing silicon, and includes a plurality of primary-crystal silicon grains (2) at the sliding surface. The sliding surface has a ten-point average surface roughness Rz of 0.5 µm or smaller, and the plurality of primary-crystal silicon grains at the sliding surface have a crushing ratio of 200 or lower.
