A notching apparatus for an electrode substrate of a rechargeable battery includes a lower plate assembly provided with a die, an upper plate assembly provided with a punch facing toward the die, interposing the electrode substrate that passes in a first direction on the lower plate assembly and has a width in a second direction crossing the first direction, and a pusher provided to a first side of the punch and the die in the second direction, and configured to notch the electrode from the electrode substrate and separate a generated scrap by pressing with a blade, where the blade is disposed to connect an exterior and an interior of the die in the second direction, and where at least first side of the punch and the die is provided with a recess on which the blade may be laid.
