A method for operating an anti-lock braking system control unit for a highly automated vehicle with at least one steering axle, including: reading in an activation signal, which represents an activated steering brake function of the vehicle and/or a deactivated electrically actuatable steering function of the vehicle; and transmitting a control signal using the activation signal, wherein the control signal is for setting a control mode for controlling an ABS function of the anti-lock braking system control unit for at least the steering axle of the vehicle.
