The present invention provides an energy storage system including a rack BMS that outputs measurement data and a failure flag of a battery rack including a plurality of battery cells, a communication conversion device that receives the measurement data and the failure flag from the rack BMS, subjects the measurement data to communication conversion, and outputs the measurement data, and a server that receives the measurement data from the communication conversion device, in which the communication conversion device stores the measurement data according to activation of the failure flag, and a method of operating the same.
