A pouch type secondary battery may include an electrode assembly having a first width and a pouch type exterior in which a recess part configured to accommodate the electrode assembly is formed. The recess part may include a main recess part and a sub recess part. The main recess part may have a space defining a second width that is equal to or greater than the first width. The sub recess part may communicate with the main recess part and define a space having a third width less than the first width.
