An imidazolidinylide compound for use as a shut-down additive for a lithium-ion battery. The imidazolidinylide compound has a formula (I), wherein, Rto R, each independently the other, is a linear C- to C-alkyl group, a branched C- to C-alkyl group, a C- to C-alkenyl group, a C- to C-cycloalkyl group, or a C- to C-arene group, wherein at least one of Rand Rmay also be H, Rto R, each independently of the other, is completely, partially or not fluorinated, and Rto Rmay each also contain O as a heteroatom.
