METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MONITORING ELECTRIC MOTOR SYSTEM

A method and an apparatus are provided to monitor an electric motor drive system. Samples of a three-phase current waveform associated with the electric motor system are obtained. The samples of the three-phase current waveform are transformed into two orthogonal signals. A covariance matrix is generated from the two orthogonal signals. A fault type and/or a fault location in the electric motor system is determined based on the covariance matrix.
