VEHICLE OCCUPANT RESTRAINT DEVICE AND METHOD FOR FOLDING FAR SIDE AIRBAG

A vehicle occupant restraint device (10) includes: a vehicle seat (12); a console box (20); and a far side airbag (36) installed in an inner side portion of a seatback (16) and configured to be inflated and deployed toward an inner side of an occupant (P, P1, P2). The far side airbag (36) includes a main chamber (38) configured such that lower end (38D) is located below an upper face (28A) of the console box (20) when in a fully inflated and deployed state and configured to cover the occupant (P, P1, P2) at least from a waist (Pw) to a head (Ph) as viewed from a side when in the fully inflated and deployed state; and a sub-chamber (40) having an upper opening (40B) communicating with an upper communication hole (38B) of the main chamber (38) and a lower opening (40C) communicating with a lower communication hole (38C) of the main chamber (38) and being configured to be inflated and deployed inward from a front portion (38F) of the main chamber (38).
