A fuel cell arrangement for a fuel cell vehicle has a cathode inlet conditioning assembly configured to receive ambient air and to output cooled compressed air, a fuel cell assembly and an energy dissipating resistor arranged downstream the cathode inlet conditioning assembly, an air bleed valve arranged upstream the fuel cell assembly and resistor, a one-directional valve arranged downstream the air bleed valve and upstream the resistor, a throttle valve arranged downstream the air bleed valve and upstream the fuel cell assembly, and a control unit being configured to control the air bleed valve, the throttle valve, and the one-directional valve to maintain an operating pressure of the fuel cell assembly while dissipating energy via the resistor, when the control unit identifies an upcoming brake event.
