The invention relates to various aspects of an object detection technique for vehicle treatment systems and a correspondingly designed system control. According to a first aspect, an AI module (14) recognizes in ambient detection data (9) of an imaging sensor (10, 11) an exceptional characteristic (KS) of the vehicle that is relevant to the treatment operation. A treatment program of the vehicle treatment is adapted based on the recognized exceptional characteristic (KS) and is started or continued. The AI module (14) is trained to recognize the presence of an attachment part (24) mounted on the vehicle contour and to classify a recognized attachment part with a specific attachment part type (TA), wherein the adaptation takes place specifically for the recognized attachment part (24); and/or to recognize a vehicle sub-object (21), namely a vehicle part (23), and to classify for the vehicle part (23) at least one exception property (LS) that is defined as permissible for a vehicle treatment, wherein the adaptation of the treatment program takes place specifically for the recognized vehicle part (23) and the exception property (LS).
