A battery management apparatus according to some embodiments disclosed herein includes a sensor configured to collect battery data from a diagnosis target battery at intervals of a first time window each time when the diagnosis target battery enters a rest state and a controller configured to determine a short-term change of the diagnosis target battery during the first time window, based on current battery data measured in a current rest state, determine a long-term change of the diagnosis target battery between adjacent rest states, based on a difference between previous battery data measured in a previous rest state and the current battery data, and diagnose a state of the diagnosis target battery based on the short-term change and the long-term change.
