A phosphorus-carbon composite negative electrode material containing a phosphorus atom and a carbon atom, in which, in a volume-based cumulative particle size distribution curve obtained by a laser diffraction scattering type particle size distribution measurement method, D10 is 1 µm or more, the D10 being a value of a particle diameter at a 10% cumulative point from a fine particle side. In the phosphorus-carbon composite negative electrode material, a ratio WL620/WL780 of a weight reduction ratio WL620 at a measurement temperature of 620°C and a weight reduction ratio WL780 at a measurement temperature of 780°C, which are determined by a predetermined thermo gravimetric analysis, is preferably 0.1 or more and 0.9 or less.
