It is provided an energy storage unit for a vehicle, wherein the energy storage unit includes a plurality of battery cells which for providing electric energy are electrically connected to a cell contacting system of the energy storage unit. At least one of the battery cells of the proposed energy storage unit is exchangeable and therefore is releasably connected to the cell contacting system.
