The engine unit includes: a four-stroke engine body having a high-load region and a low-load region; a three-phase brushless motor that starts the four-stroke engine body and generates power after starting the four-stroke engine body; an inverter including a plurality of switching parts; and a control device. The control device is configured to: while a crankshaft is in forward rotation after a combustion operation of the four-stroke engine body is stopped, control the plurality of switching parts such that a resistance is applied to the forward rotation of the crankshaft by the three-phase brushless motor, forcing the crankshaft to stop in a compression stroke of the four-stroke engine body; and in response to reception of a start instruction under a state where the crankshaft is stopped, direct the three-phase brushless motor to start forward rotation of the crankshaft from a position where the crankshaft is stopped in the compression stroke.",
