When setting up a warning triangle, drivers of a broken-down vehicle (11) expose themselves to great danger. In particular, before the broken-down vehicle (11) is made conspicuous by a warning triangle, drivers of following vehicles barely see or do not see it at all. Distance holders are known that are attached to a side of the vehicle (11) facing the roadway in order to mark an area in which persons can move. However, these devices are complex to install, as well as bulky and thus unsuitable for carrying in a vehicle. The present invention provides a device (10) with which a broken-down vehicle (11) can be marked in a simple manner. For this purpose, it is provided that a signal element (12) of the device (10) is inflatable.
