This system comprises: a mechanical coupling device (26) between first (30) and second components (32) of a transmission line (6), the first component (30) being connected to an output shaft (14) of the electric motor (8) and the second component (32) being connected to an input shaft (16) of an axle (4) of the rail vehicle, the coupling device (26) being capable of being in an engaged or disengaged state; and a control means (28) capable of applying a disengagement signal to the coupling device (26), to switch it from the engaged state to the disengaged state, in the event of detection of a failure of the power supply circuit (10) and/or of the electric motor (8).",
