A device is proposed for securing cargo in a loading space of a commercial vehicle that is surrounded by two walls (3), a loading floor, and a loading space ceiling, comprising a tightening strap (30) that can be tensioned over the cargo to be secured and a return device arranged below the loading space ceiling (2), consisting of a strap carrier (20) through which the tightening strap (30) passes, and a prestressed rope (15) fastened to the strap carrier (20), wherein the strap carrier (20) has a deflection region (40) over which the tightening strap (30) is guided, and wherein the rope (15), starting from its rope attachment point (45) leading out of the strap carrier (20), extends to the loading space ceiling (2). In order to keep interference with loading and unloading activities caused by the tightening strap hanging loosely into the loading space as minimal as possible, the tightening strap (30) is deflected in the deflection region (40) such that at least one deflection (40B) has a smaller distance to the wall (3) than the rope attachment point (45).
