A control device for an internal combustion engine (1) is provided. The internal combustion engine (1) includes an adding valve (17) injecting an additive into an exhaust passage of the internal combustion engine (1). The control device includes an electronic control unit (21). The electronic control unit (21) is configured to control the internal combustion engine (1) after a stop command for the internal combustion engine (1) is made such that the internal combustion engine (1) is stopped after an idle operation of the internal combustion engine (1). The electronic control unit (21) is configured to set a timing at which the internal combustion engine (1) is to be stopped after the idle operation in accordance with a temperature of the adding valve (17).
