The invention relates to a fuel cell system (), having: at least one fuel cell () and a cathode path () for providing an oxygen-containing reactant in the form of supply air (L) to the at least one fuel cell (), wherein the cathode path () has a supply air line () for providing the supply air (L) to the at least one fuel cell () and an exhaust air line () for discharging exhaust air (L) from the at least one fuel cell (), and at least one heat exchanger () is provided between the supply air line () and the exhaust air line () of the cathode path () in order to transfer thermal energy from the supply air (L) to the exhaust air (L). For this purpose, the heat exchanger () is designed to transfer the heat to an exhaust air (L) flow (M) flowing through the heat exchanger () by means of the evaporation and condensation of product water (H) and by means of multiple supply air (L) flows (M, M) flowing through the heat exchanger ().
