The hydraulic shock absorber further includes a free piston (15) slidably fitted in the cylinder (2) so that a pipe (90) extends through the free piston (15). A first oil chamber (16) and second oil chamber (17) on the two sides of the piston (13) communicate with each other via a valve. A second support member (14) partitions a second oil chamber (17) and third oil chamber (18), and the free piston (15) partitions the third oil chamber (18) and a gas chamber (19).",
