A monitoring system (2) mountable on a vehicle (1) includes an image capture unit (6) including a pair of image capture devices (6a, 6b) disposed side by side in a horizontal direction to capture an image of an object ahead of the vehicle (1), a distance calculator (11, 12, 13) to calculate distance between the vehicle (1) and the object ahead of the vehicle (1) based on a signal transmitted from the pair of the image capture devices (6a, 6b); and a signal generator (100) to generate a control signal to control the vehicle (1) based on a signal transmitted from the distance calculator (11, 12, 13). The image capture unit (6) including the pair of the image capture devices (6a, 6b) is fixable on an exterior frame of the vehicle (1).
