The invention relates to a steel cord of 1+4 construction for use as a strength carrier in a belt layer of a vehicle pneumatic tire, having a single core filament (1) and layer filaments (2), which all contact the core filament (1) on the outside and have equal diameters (D2). The core filament (1) has a diameter (D1) of 0.22 mm to 0.30 mm and the layer filaments (2) have a diameter (D2) of 0.38 mm to 0.45 mm.
