The invention relates to a drive (1) of a rail vehicle with two driving wheels (2) rotating about an axle (11) and connected by an axle shaft (3), wherein a shaft (13) of a dynamoelectric machine rotating about a further axle (12) is arranged parallel to the axle, wherein the axle shaft (3) and the shaft (13) are connected by a transmission with positive engagement, wherein at least one braking device (6) is arranged between the transmission (4) and the dynamoelectric machine (8).
