The invention relates to an optoelectronic detection device (2) for a motor vehicle with a transmission and reception unit (14), which has a first optical transmitter for transmitting electromagnetic transmission beams (4) into the surroundings of the detection device (2) and an optical receiver (5) for receiving beams (6). The optical receiver (5) has at least one optoelectronic detector (7) and provides an evaluation electronics (8) with a reception signal (9) formed as a function of the received beams (6). The invention furthermore relates to a method for operating such a detection device (2) as well as a motor vehicle with such a detection device (2). In order to reduce the structural complexity of the detection device, it is provided according to the invention that the transmission and reception unit (14) has a second optical transmitter (12) for transmitting electromagnetic transmission beams (6') into the surroundings of the detection device (2), which is assigned to a different detection area of the surroundings of the detection device (2) than the first optical transmitter (3). The evaluation electronics (8) is configured such that the received beams (6, 6') are assigned to one of the optical transmitters (3, 12).
