A drive system of this type with at least one carrier rail which is fastened laterally to the roof part, with at least one control carriage which is linearly movable via a drive means in a guide track running laterally along the roof part, with at least one extension mechanism which pivots the carrier rail and thus the roof part, raises and lowers it, as well as with a fixed roof area arranged in the vehicle longitudinal direction behind the movable roof part, wherein the movable roof part can be swung out from a closed position into a lifted position and can be lowered into an open position and moved rearward under the roof area, is known. According to the invention, the carrier rail is pivotably supported at its front end face area on a compensating element by means of a pivot joint, which is displaceable into different positions relative to a front guide arrangement of the extension mechanism depending on the movement position of the roof part.
