The present invention describes a bumper assembly (10) comprising a cross-member (12), a plate (18,20) intended to be fixed to a side member of the motor vehicle, a shock absorber (14,16) connecting the cross-member (12) to the plate (18,20) comprising a tubular part (44) made of composite material. One end of the tubular part comprises a shoulder extending substantially radially from the tubular part (44). A fastening device ensures the fastening of the absorber (14,16) to the cross-member (12) or the plate (18,20) by a fastening means, and comprises a metal fastening piece (58) comprising a fastening part, fixed to the plate (18,20) or to the cross-member (12), and a blocking part extending over the shoulder, so that the shoulder is disposed between the plate (18,20) or the cross-member (12) and the blocking part.
