SAFETY DEVICE

A safety device for a vehicle having an under-run guard (18) with a ground clearance gap (20) between said guard (18) and a surface on which said vehicle is located, the device comprising a deflector or shield (100) which is configured to be deflected by a force and/or leave said ground clearance gap (100) substantially unobstructed in a first configuration, and to deflect an object away from said ground clearance gap in a second configuration, and an actuator (108) configured to actuate said deflector and/or shield causing it to be moved or otherwise triggered from said first configuration to said second configuration.
