The invention relates to a permanent braking device (1) for a powertrain of a motor vehicle, comprising at least one retarder connected downstream of a motor vehicle transmission, which is connected via an intermediate high-reduction stage (14) to an output-side component of the motor vehicle transmission. In order to realize integration of one or more retarders in a compact design, each high-reduction stage (14) comprises an output gear (15), which is non-rotatably connected to the output-side component and meshes with an intermediate gear (16), which in turn meshes with respective drive gears (17, 18) placed on respective drive shafts (19, 20) of the at least one retarder.
