METHOD AND DEVICE FOR PREVENTING OR REDUCING COLLISION DAMAGE TO A PARKED VEHICLE

The invention relates to a method and a device for preventing or avoiding collision damage to a parked vehicle caused by a vehicle executing a parking operation. A method according to the invention comprises the following steps: determining, on the part of the parked vehicle, whether a collision risk exists with the vehicle executing the parking operation, transmitting, if a collision risk exists, a warning signal by the parked vehicle, monitoring whether the vehicle executing the parking operation responds to the warning signal, and performing, if the vehicle executing the parking operation does not respond to the warning signal, a maneuver to prevent or reduce collision damage by the parked vehicle, wherein the transmitted warning signal is varied as a function of the extent of expected collision damage.
