A child vehicle seat comprises a seat bottom (4) and a seat back (5), head support portions (6) located on each lateral side of the seat back as well as shoulder support portions (7) located on each lateral side of the seat back between the head support portions and the seat bottom. Each head support portion is provided with a first energy dissipation element (19), whilst each shoulder support portion is provided with a second energy dissipation element (16). The first energy dissipation element has a compressive strength less than 50 kPa, the second energy dissipation element has a compressive strength between 50 and 500 kPa, measured at a deformation range of 10% - 40%, wherein the difference between the compressive strength of the first energy dissipation element and the second energy dissipation element is at least 20 kPa.
