The invention relates to a sand refill container for a sand spreading system for vehicles and a method for refilling the sand spreading system according to the preambles of claims 1 and 7, wherein the sand spreading system (2) for vehicles comprises at least one sand box (2.1) and a sand outlet (2.2) with a sand line (2.3) for transporting sand from the at least one sand box (2.1) to a spreading location and the sand box (2.1) can be sealingly connected to a sand refill container (1) and wherein the sand refill container (1) is provided with a funnel-shaped discharge (1.1), a tubular outlet (1.2) with a slide valve (1.3) and a sealed closure (1.4) for connection to a sand box (2.1) of the sand spreading system (2).
