The invention relates to an on-board network for a motor vehicle, in particular for a commercial vehicle. The on-board network (10) comprises a first sub-network (11) in which a first nominal voltage (U1) is applied, comprising a first energy storage device (2) and a first load resistor (4) formed by multiple consumers; a second sub-network (12) in which a second nominal voltage (U2) is applied, comprising a generator (5) and a second energy storage device (3), wherein the first and second sub-networks (11, 12) are coupled to one another via a parallel circuit of a voltage converter (1) and an auxiliary charging device (13), wherein the auxiliary charging device (13) comprises a non-controllable current limiting element and at least one switch (15) connected in series therewith.
