The invention further relates to a fuel system for a motor vehicle with such a liquid trap (7). In order to enable emptying of the liquid trap (7) without a suction jet pump and by simple means, it is proposed according to the invention that an underpressure generated in a gas or head space of the fuel tank (1) is applied via a suction line (10) to the liquid trap (7) and the liquid fuel present in the collection chamber (9) is at least partially suctioned out through the suction line (10) into the gas or head space (5), or that the gas or head space (5) of the fuel tank (1) is connected to the liquid trap (7) via a suction line (10) communicating with the collection chamber (9).",
