The invention relates to an operating method in a vehicle (6), in which first graphic data are displayed in a first area (3) of a display surface (4) in the interior of the vehicle (6). In a second area (5) of the display surface (4), second graphic data are displayed, wherein the first graphic data are assigned to the second graphic data. A position of an actuating element (19) is detected in a detection space (17) which is assigned to the second area (5) of the display surface (4). The position of the actuating element (19) is assigned to a first part of the second graphic data, wherein the first part of the second graphic data is pre-selected. Depending on the pre-selected first part of the second graphic data, first graphic data for a preview are generated in a display mode in the first area (3) of the display surface (4). Furthermore, the invention relates to an operating system in a vehicle (6).
