The invention relates to a motor vehicle with an alternating current electric drive as a driving motor, whose torque can be transmitted to at least one drive wheel of the motor vehicle, an electrical energy storage device for supplying electrical energy to the driving motor and a power converter for converting a direct voltage of the electrical energy storage device into an alternating voltage, with which the electric drive is controlled. According to the invention, an electrical gear shifter is provided, which is designed as an electrical switching device between the power converter and the electric drive. With this switching device, it is possible to switch between different voltage transformation ratios for the alternating voltage from the power converter to the electric drive.
