Torque limiting axle assembly

An axle assembly includes an axle (12) in frictional driving engagement with a wheel hub (32). A torque limiting assembly limits the amount of torque that can be transmitted between the axle (12) and hub (32). The torque limiting assembly includes an arm or rod, such as the shaft of a bolt (70), which biases the axle (12) and hub (32) together to provide a predetermined slipping torque. The rod or arm is housed in a clamp (50) which extends axially over the outer peripheries of an axle flange (40) and a hub flange (14).
