Longitudinal member (30') for retaining a stiffening vertebra and maintaining a wiping blade for a windshield wiper blade of a vehicle windscreen, in particular an automotive vehicle, said member defining at least one longitudinal housing (42') for receiving the vertebra and at least one longitudinal housing (32') for receiving a heel of the wiping blade, at least one of said housings being delimited at least in part by a bottom wall (60) and two lateral walls (62) connected to said bottom wall, said lateral walls comprising internal faces (62a) which are plane and converge towards one another as they move away from said bottom wall.
