Automatic removal of water from vehicle surfaces

Water is removed from the windshield of a ground vehicle (110) via a wiper sweeping across the windshield, thus transporting the water thereon to a particular side. At least one remote sensor registers set of parameters in respect of other ground vehicles (120). A controller unit determines a point in time when a substantial amount of water (210) is expected to hit the windshield of the own vehicle (110) as the result of another vehicle (120) moving proximate thereto and controls the operation of the wiper such that, before said point in time, the wiper is placed in a position from which it is estimated that as much as possible of said amount of water (210) can be removed with a shortest delay in a single stroke of the wiper over the windshield.
