The overheating of a clutch (20) can be prevented in a hybrid drive device having: the clutch (20) which connects and disconnects an output shaft (EG-1) of an engine and an input shaft (51) of a gear mechanism; and a motor generator (MG1) that rotates in conjunction with the rotation of the input shaft (51). The hybrid drive device has: the clutch (20) connecting and disconnecting the output shaft (EG-1) and the input shaft (51); a first motor generator (MG1) that rotates in conjunction with the rotation of the input shaft (51); a permissible clutch heat generation amount calculation means that calculates the permissible clutch heat generation amount; a permissible differential clutch rotation speed calculation means which calculates the permissible differential clutch rotation speed for when engagement starts, on the basis of the permissible clutch heat generation amount; and a motor generator rotation control means that controls the rotation speed of the first motor generator (MG1) such that the differential clutch rotation speed when engagement starts and during engagement is no more than the permissible differential clutch rotation speed when engagement starts.
