A solid oxide fuel cell system (1, 51) includes: a fuel cell stack (4) having a fuel electrode (2) and an oxidant electrode (3); and a combustion unit (12, 52) provided to start the system; a control unit (21) configured to perform control in such a way as to fill a combustion gas discharged from the combustion unit (12, 52) into the fuel electrode (2) of the fuel cell stack (4) at a time of stopping the system, the combustion gas containing an inert gas as a component.
