The vehicle door opening and closing apparatus including a vehicle door, a rail mounted on a vehicle body, a roller unit mounted on the vehicle door, the roller unit configured to move along the rail and allow the vehicle door to open and close in a mode selected from a swing mode and a sliding mode, and a hold lock mounted on the vehicle body, the hold lock including a passing rod configured to releasably hold the roller unit in a predetermined position.
