A solution is to be found that avoids premature or delayed deactivation of the turn signal, for example after an intersection. This is achieved by a method for automatic deactivation of a manually activated turn signal of a motor vehicle, in which a navigation system (21) is used to deactivate the turn signal as a function of road geometry and/or road topology present as digital map data and/or as a function of a distance of the vehicle to a turning point and/or an elapsed time period after passing a turning point.
