AUTOMOTIVE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM AND METHOD OF COMMUNICATION BETWEEN AN AUTOMOTIVE INPUT DEVICE AND A MOBILE DEVICE

An automotive communication system comprises an automotive input device for use in a vehicle and a mobile device which are adapted to be coupled with each other for exchanging signal communication between them. The mobile device comprises a HMI generating unit for generating a human machine interface with a functionality for interaction with a user, and the automotive input device comprises a transmitting unit for transmitting to the HMI generating unit a description of an application of the automotive input device and a description of functions supported by the application. The HMI generating unit is configured to generate the human machine interface based on the description of the application and the description of functions supported by the application and to provide the human machine interface to the automotive input device for controlling the application and at least one of the functions supported by the application by user interaction on the human machine interface on the automotive input device.
