The invention relates to a heat recovery system (13) for an internal combustion engine (14) comprising a heat exchanger (6, 11) through which a fluid heat carrier flows, for transferring heat from an exhaust system (15) of the internal combustion engine (14) to the heat carrier, a heat engine (1) through which the heat carrier flows, in particular an expansion machine, for converting the heat transferred to the heat carrier into mechanical output work, a substantially cyclically closed line system (16) for connecting the heat exchanger (6, 11) to the heat engine (1), and a displacement pump (4) for conveying the heat carrier through the line system (16) in a predetermined flow direction (17) by means of mechanical drive work. An improved sealing of the heat carrier is made possible by a drive, which is hermetically sealed with respect to the heat carrier, for supplying the drive work to the displacement pump (4) and a discharge, which is hermetically sealed with respect to the heat carrier, for removing the output work from the heat engine (1). The invention further relates to an internal combustion engine (14) with such a heat recovery system (13).
